Firefox Certificate Error

The CSS Courses Web site uses an ipsCA certificate to verify that www.pss.msu.edu is a trusted Web site and to encrypt data sent between your computer and the server. There is currently a problem with Firefox on Windows computers and Firefox, Chrome, and Safari on Mac computers not recognizing the ipsCA certificate.

If you are using Firefox and see a Connection is Untrusted message, use the following steps to add an exception to Firefox so that you can login to the course (you will only have to do this once):

Step 1: Click I Understand the Risks to continue.

Step 2: Click Add Exception to continue.

Step 3: Click Confirm Security Exception to login to the course.

The reason this error message appears is that Firefox does not have the necessary information from ipsCA to verify that courses.css.msu.edu is a trusted Web site, this will be addressed in an upcoming Firefox update. Windows versions of Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Safari should not see this error, if you do, contact Dave Krauss.

If you are using a Mac, follow the directions in your browser to add www.pss.msu.edu in your trusted Web site list.
